It is almost time for reunion on Saturday July 15th, so here
is a list of what we plan for certain times of the day. Also read the next post (from 6/14) for more details.
First of all, we will need help setting up the reunion
tent. Those who can help please get in touch with Jeremy to arrange
when. Will need to be set up and taken down on the same day, 7/15. Joe, I
believe this is stored at your house?
ALSO, remember to plan and gather your family theme basket,
large item or donation for the raffle. We still need some large coffee cans to
hold the raffle tickets so if you have some please leave them at Sandi's or
Mum's house. Sandi's grandkids are going to decorate them.
Suggest you bring lawn chairs. There are picnic tables there
for our use. You can bring canoes, kayaks or motor boats – the motor boats will
have to be launched at Dead Stream and can be brought into the left / west of
the beach area although use caution as it is somewhat rocky.
Readfield Town Beach “Rules”:
There is no lifeguard on duty
No smoking or alcoholic beverages on the beach (Can go to
the Weathervane to buy and drink alcoholic beverages if wish to).
No glass allowed on the beach
SO, the day will go…
9:00
am
Readfield Town Beach opens for people to start arriving; We
will have coffee and donuts there for early arrivals and people setting up the
family reunion tent;
10:00
am
Dale will lead a history walk of the Readfield Fairgrounds
trail and share some stories about Readfield Grange Fair as well as where it
all happened. Hopefully others will go along who remember the Fair. We will
stop at the Union Meeting House (UMH), on the loop back, to see the trompe
l'oeil artwork (they are doing work there) and interior of that historic
building. July 15th is the UMH Strawberry Festival 1-3pm so we are arranging a
"take out" of shortcakes for snacks later in the day, while
supporting UMH at the same time. Meet at the Readfield Town Beach parking lot
at 10am and we will walk from there to begin at the trailhead on Main Street;
12:00
noon
Arrive before noon with your picnics. Ideally, we would like
to eat together at noon;
1:00
pm
A (non-alcoholic) toast, personal tributes and Happy 90th
Birthday cake for Uncle Buster. Bring him a card and include a favorite memory
and / or something you admire about him. Can read out loud, or have someone do
that for you if wish to;
1:30-2:00 pm
Family Meeting (may be a little later, do when Uncle Buster
celebration and tributes are done):
2:00
pm
Last raffle tickets and 50/50 tickets sold at 2:00pm / end
of family meeting, immediately followed by drawing of Family Raffle items and
50/50 raffle. Count ballots for what organization(s) will receive half of the
50/50 Raffle proceeds.
2:00-3:00 pm
Family group photos by Harv. Those who do not plan to be
there at 2pm please make sure you connect with Harv when you are there.
All
day
Swimming, volleyball, horseshoes, swings, jungle gym, kids’
craft activities, boating, lawn games and last but not least, visiting,
hugging, laughing and giving thanks for each other. Oh, and eating.
6:00 pm
Take down our reunion tent. We will need helpers for this.
Those who wish to can remain at the Beach until dusk. Gather at Weathervane for
dinner and / or drinks is an option, although we are not making reservations
for that - you are on your own for that part.
We hope to see each and every one of you there, and can’t
wait to see what you pack in YOUR Prampy picnic!! Can email Dale with questions at crossings4u@gmail.com
